Anisotropy influence on guided wave scattering for composite structure monitoring

نویسندگان

چکیده

Composite structures are widely used for aerospace applications but prone to barely visible impact damage from low velocity impacts. Guided wave measurements using sparse arrays of distributed sensors provide an important structural health monitoring (SHM) tool detecting and localizing in composites. However, the anisotropy composites needs be considered as it can affect guided propagation scattering, impacting imaging performance. Improved defect characterization achieved by considering scattering characteristics signal processing. Scattering around two different types multiple incident directions a quasi-isotropic carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) panel were investigated. Full 3D Finite Element (FE) simulations compared measured scattered field at artificial insert delamination. Permanent magnets mounted on undamaged region plate targets both numerical experimental patterns delamination results. Strong directional dependency was observed types, with energy focusing along outer ply layers. For delamination, mostly forward is all directions, whereas magnet blocked transmission directions. 2D matrices calculated, demonstrating distinct behavior each type. Implications angular SHM array discussed.

Fatigue Delamination Monitoring in Composite Structures by Guided Wave Method

This paper presents an effective parameter for fatigue delamination detection and monitoring by guided wave method. The finite element analysis and the Time of Flight parameter defined as a time between guided wave interrogated by an actuator and first wave captured by a sensor was introduced to observe the behaviour of the defected structure. The relationship between ToF and delamination size ...

Wave Propagation Scattering Due to Defects on Thin Composite Plates

Engineering structures which are based on laminated composites have a high probability of unexpected damage developing during service. The damaged formations must be monitored from the beginning before they head towards structural failure which could result in substantial damage. This leads to the necessity of a structural health monitoring (SHM) system to be installed during the construction o...

Numerical Modeling Of Obliquely Incident Guided Wave Scattering By A Crack In A Laminated Composite Plate

In this paper, we consider scattering by a guided wave incident obliquely on a surface breaking crack in a laminated composite plate, with a view to ultrasonic nondestructive assessment of cracks. The solution to this problem is the first step towards analyzing the general three-dimensional scattering problem. The method used for modeling is a hybrid method which combines finite element method ...
